Prof. Henryk Skarżyński, M.D., Ph.D., dr. h.c. multi, director of the Institute of Physiology and Pathology of Hearing, and Prof. Piotr H. Skarżyński, M.D., Ph.D., Ph.D. in Health Sciences, MSc in management, deputy head of the Department of Teleaudilogy and Screening Tests of the Institute of Physiology and Pathology of Hearing, received a prestigious recognition awarded by the authorities of the Iraqi Society of Otorhinolaryngologists head and neck surgeons for their contribution to the education and support for Iraqi specialists. The award was handed during the 3rd edition of the International Conference of Iraqi ENT Society, which took place in Baghdad.
The conference gathered representatives from all around the world: from Egypt, Iran, the Lebanon, Turkey, Great Britain, and Italy, among other places. The presented lectures addressed otorhinolaryngological aspects, such as endoscopic surgery, head and neck cancers, phonosurgery, thyroid surgery and many more. Prof. Piotr H. Skarżyński delivered lectures during which he characterised the Polish school of Cochlear implantation, talked about the analysis and handling of complications and about indications and long-term results. His presentations received a lot of interest and sparked discussion on innovative solutions in the area of hearing improvement implantable systems.
Prof. Henryk Skarżyński and Prof. Piotr H. Skarżyński have been cooperating with the Republic of Iraqi for many years. Representatives of the Iraqi scientific community were among the participants of the international scientific events, such as conventions, conferences and workshops, they co-organised. They are the first Poles to receive this prestigious recognition.
