Project’s summary: Hearing loss is one of the most common and burdensome impairments, negatively affecting various spheres of life. The goal of the project “Remediation of Hearing Loss” (acronym: HearingTreat) was the strengthening of the position of the Institute of Physiology and Pathology of Hearing in the field of otolaryngology and audiology, as well as the strengthening of the Institute’s potential in the area of application of advanced new therapies for the treatment of hearing disorders. The main task of the project was the transfer of knowledge and the increase of the competences of the Institute’s team, in order to:

  • develop an advanced, interdisciplinary research on hearing preservation after cochlear implantation
  • connect the stimulation with the use of cochlear implant and hearing aid (called electro-acoustic stimulation or EAS)

The Coordinator’s team performed various surgeries, including pioneer surgical procedures of partial deafness treatment with the use of a cochlear implant (PDCI), obtaining unrivalled results of hearing preservation and establishing a huge group of patients who use electro-acoustic stimulation. The group is the biggest homogeny group on a global scale.
