6th Instructional Workshop and Consensus in Auditory Implants, organized by the European Academy of Otology and Neuro-Otology was held on 30.08-2.09.2012 in Bratislava.
Poland was represented in this meeting by Prof. Henryk Skarzynski, who is a founding member of the EAONO and its Regional Secretary. Prof. Skarzynski with the team including dr.Artur Lorens, dr. Monika Matusiak, dr. Maciej Mrowka, dr Piotr Henryk Skarzyński and Mr. Lukasz Olszewski prepared and carried out three specialist workshops:
- Direct Round Window stimulation with the Vibrant Soundbridge (Med-El): 6-years’ experience using technique without fascia.
- Hearing loss treatment in children with various congenital and acquired ear malformations using the Bone Anchored Hearing Aids (BAHA)
- Partial Deafness Treatment (PDT) – 10 years – results and future trends
Prof. Skarżynski participated also in the Satellite Symposium on „Advanced technologies in clinical practice”, where he presented a study on “Hearing preservation independent of electrode length”. Additionally Prof. Skarzynski chaired the Consensus Panel on “Electric and Acoustic Stimulation – Partial Deafness Management”.
The EAONO, founded in 1999, is an organization bringing together the prominent experts in otology, neurootology or skull base surgery from all over Europe, helping to stimulate the basic and clinical research, encouraging education, high quality training programmes and promoting new technologies.
