On September 27, 2018, an agreement was signed in the Ministry of Health for co-financing the implementation of the Project entitled “Training of doctors in the Center of Advanced Surgical Techniques of the Institute of Physiology and Pathology at the World Hearing Center for the needs of otosurgery, rhinosurgery, phonosurgery, orbital surgery, maxillofacial surgery, skull base surgery” under the Knowledge Education Development Programme (PO WER, priority axis V Support for the health sector, Measure 5.4 Professional competences and qualifications of medical personnel). The agreement was signed by Deputy Minister of Health – Janusz Cieszyński and Prof. Henryk Skarżyński, director of the Institute.
– The main goal of the project is to develop professional skills and qualifications of doctors, including experts and specialists in otorhinolaryngology, audiology and phoniatrics, pediatric otorhinolaryngology, ophthalmology and maxillofacial surgery, in the scope of highly specialized diagnostic and treatment procedures within the skull base. – said Prof. Skarżyński during a Polish Radio programme. – We will organize 40 trainings to enable an increase in the number of doctors and centers implementing procedures in these fields in Poland. It is an answer to the epidemiological and demographic needs of our country, including maps of health needs. – added Prof. Skarżyński.
The education referred to in the agreement is a simulation education and it is intended to acquire, as well as to check knowledge and practical skills in a clinical setting, but in a safe environment where making a mistake does not harm the patient. The degree of realism of simulation can vary, from case studies and educational games to virtual patient computer systems, dummies and training simulators for gaining practical skills, to advanced patient simulators allowing a very realistic reproduction of clinical scenarios, or finally, the use of standardized patients. Introduction of this teaching method will allow to learn how to apply the acquired theoretical knowledge in practice.
The target group of the Project are physicians, specialists in the field of otorhinolaryngology, audiology and phoniatrics, pediatric otorhinolaryngology, ophthalmology, maxillofacial surgery and partially neurosurgery, volunteering to participate in the Project, employed in health care centers regardless of the form of employment.
