Prof. Henryk Skarżyński, M.D., Ph.D., dr. h.c. multi, director of the Institute of Physiology and Pathology of Hearing, and Prof. Piotr H. Skarżyński, M.D., Ph.D., MSc, deputy head of the Department of Teleaudiology and Screening Tests of the Institute of Physiology and Pathology of Hearing, received a prestigious recognition awarded by the Iraqi Society of Otorhinolaryngologists Head and Neck Surgeons for contributions to education and supporting Iraqi specialists. The award was presented during the 3rd International Conference of the Iraqi ENT Society, which took place in Baghdad.
The conference gathered representatives from all around the world, including Egypt, Iran, Lebanon, Turkey, United Kingdom, and Italy. The lectures presented at the conference addressed otorhinolaryngological aspects, such as endoscopic surgery, head and neck cancers, phonosurgery, thyroid surgery, and many more. In addition, professor Piotr H. Skarżyński delivered lectures during which he characterised the Polish school of cochlear implantation and presented the analysis and handling of complications, indications, and long-term results of cochlear implantation. His presentations received a lot of interest and sparked discussion on innovative solutions in implantable hearing systems.
Prof. Henryk Skarzyński and Prof. Piotr H. Skarżyński have been cooperating with the medical community of Iraq for many years. Representatives of the Iraqi scientific community were among the participants of the international scientific events, such as conventions, conferences, and workshops organized by them. Thus, they are the first Poles to receive this prestigious recognition.
