In Zakopane on 9-11 March 2017 took place the 2nd Scientific Conference ‘Guidelines in otorhinolaryngology, audiology and phoniatrics’ under the patronage of Prof. Henryk Skarżyński, National Consultant for Otorhinolaryngology. Its organizers were the Institute of Physiology and Pathology of Hearing and the Institute of Sensory Organs.

– I am very glad that this is already the second meeting of this eminent and experienced group of specialists. – says the National Consultant for Otorhinolaryngology, Prof. Henryk Skarżyński, director of the Institute of Physiology and Pathology of Hearing. – The exchange of experiences with younger colleagues is one of our primary aims during this Conference. We want to draw attention to the problem of hearing disorders and to present the guidelines in otorhinolaryngology, audiology and phoniatrics. It is important that all doctors, especially young, know the algorithms of management for specific disorders. This is why we have organized this meeting of regional consultant this year again – we want to develop practical guidelines for our specialties. Papers and presentations submitted for this meeting are making it a very interesting scientific event. – added Prof. Skarżyński.
The 2nd Scientific Conference ‘Guidelines in otorhinolaryngology, audiology and phoniatrics’ is one of the many events happening in 2017 – a very important year for the Institute of Physiology and Pathology of Hearing. It is the 25th anniversary of first cochlear implantations– in a deaf adult and a deaf child – in Poland performed by Prof. Henryk Skarżyński. By performing these pioneering surgeries he had not only given a hope and a chance to the thousands of deaf patients, but also had started the program of treatment of total deafness in Poland. These surgeries had been the breakthrough in Polish otosurgery.
Modern possibilities relating to ear reconstruction surgeries that improve hearing include about 20 thousand procedures of this kind performed only in the World Hearing Center. This is between several hundred to thousand per cent more than in the largest ORL in the world.
