Centuries-old history, fascinating traditions and culture, but above all – incredible residents – these are the most important assets of the town and commune of Czyżew. The home town of prof. Henryk Skarżyński, its Honorary Citizen since 2014. On the 24th of September, 2021, thanks to the invitation from the Mayor of Czyżew, Anna Bogucka, prof. H. Skarżyński had a rare occasion to meet with almost everyone.

The Mayor thanked the Honorary Citizen for all the kindness and friendship shown to the commune residents. She also stressed the pride in the fact that the Commune of Czyżew is the home town of a world-famous figure in the field of medicine – professor Henryk Skarżyński, who always highlights his ties with Czyżew. As a token of gratitude, the Czyżew Mayor and Town Council Chair granted prof. H. Skarżyński glass heart with an inscription “All that is great is great because of the heart”. The main hero of the gathering – prof. H. Skarżyński presented a film showing the achievements of his 30-year fight against deafness. In their speeches, the representatives of the local authorities expressed recognition of prof. H. Skarżyński’s international successes and achievements.

– Professor, today you are returning to the place of your family roots, and our only hope is that you feel at home here, among people close to you and your bosom friends – said the Mayor of Czyżew, Anna Bogucka, during the ceremony. – I am glad that the visit was so moving to you. We assure you that you will always find people here who wish you well.  

It was an important and exciting day to the professor and the residents of the Commune of Czyżew. On that day, staff of the World Centre of Hearing in Kajetany offered hearing, taste and smell tests, which enjoyed popularity among the citizens, as evidenced by the number of tested patients – almost 100.
